When including pdf graphics using

%\documentclass[12pt,paper]{geophysics}
\documentclass[manuscript]{geophysics}

at atmospheric pressure.
Figure~\ref{fig:cartoon} shows a schematic of the device and
\sideplot{cartoon}{width=3in}{Schematic of single-shot imploder.
The 20-liter working is at the lower left.}
Figure~\ref{fig:ondeck} is a photograph of it on the deck of the R/V R. G.
SPROUL.

The weight is about 600 lbs.}

and processing with pdflatex, the colors in a photograph and in a
color cartoon are corrupted. The individual .pdf files display
normally using acroread. Are these pdfs forced to use the same
colormap? and what can I do to recover from this.

The pdfs are made using epstopdf from the tetex package.

This may well not be a SEGTEX-specific problem.

Or is it encouragement to use black-and-white only?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
